Thank you volunteers!
On Sunday morning, May 19th the Conservancy was joined by many volunteers from the community, including from The Service Collective and students organized by Nate Price from Packer High School. In honor of Memorial Day 2024, we began planting our Memorial Garden on the east and west sides of the Brooklyn War Memorial. Volunteers planted many native perennials including a variety of phlox: native Blue Moon, Triple Play and May Breeze; plenty of Auquilegia, Dryopteris and Polygonatum were planted too.
The compacted soil in the planted areas was improved with a generous amount of organic compost integrated into the soil while planting and a large dose of enthusiastic energy from our volunteers. After planting, many volunteers headed over to our pollinator garden to help with weeding too.
