Juneteenth
In advance of Juneteenth, the Cadman Park Conservancy has set up signage in Juneteenth Grove to bring awareness to this important place in our park to celebrate Juneteenth.
Storytime!
The Brooklyn Heights Library presents Storytime in Juneteenth Grove (on the lawn) on Wednesday morning, June 25th at 10:30am.
Bring your young children and join the librarians for the delightful reading time in Cadman Plaza Park.
Athletic field
Signs are being made to show where adult leagues can play and will be installed as soon as possible. In the meantime, we've received several complaints about evening soccer groups arriving and asking children to leave the field. Please remember: the athletic field is a shared, first-come, first-served space. The issue is that these groups often take over the entire center of the field, leaving no room for children to continue playing.
Volunteer
Come celebrate the sunshine and meet the Wednesday Morning Conservancy Gardening volunteers in Juneteenth Grove by the Circle planter. Join NYC Parks Gardener Nathan Grozan from 9:30-11:30 am and help take care of the planted areas in Juneteenth Grove in preparation for Juneteenth! Being a friend!

Memorial Day
Today the Conservancy remembers our dear friends World War II Veterans Jack and Roy Vanasco. Four brothers, Terry, Roy, Joe and Jack all signed up for the National Guard early on but were sent home because they were underage. They all went on to serve in the Army except for Roy, who served in the Navy. Jack dropped out of John Jay High School to serve our country and he received an honorary degree in 2003.

Written by Mary Frost for the Brooklyn Eagle: “Brooklyn Heights resident Norman Wasserman, a decorated WWII veteran known for his poise, intelligence and joie de vivre, passed away on September 4. He was 96.
Drafted as a teenager, Wasserman shipped to Europe and joined the 286th Field Artillery Observation Battalion in General George S. Patton’s Third Army in 1944. American soldiers took the brunt of a furious six-week German assault during the coldest winter on record in Luxembourg. Winston Churchill described the Battle of the Bulge as “the greatest American battle of the war.”

The Conservancy is deeply honored to remember World War II Veteran Stephen McKarski shared by his granddaughter, Kelly Carroll, the Executive Director of the Atlantic Avenue Business Improvement District.
Storytime!
Last week’s rain was much needed for our parks, but it unfortunately washed out the first session of the Brooklyn Heights Library’s Storytime series.
We’re excited to welcome it back on Wednesday, May 28th at 10:30 AM, on the west lawn in Juneteenth Grove.
Bring your little ones, a blanket, and settle in on the grass to enjoy stories read by our wonderful librarians.
